Jiamusi University
is located in Jiamusi, a charming city in Heilongjiang Province of
China. The university was founded in 1947, and after 60 years of
development and construction, it has found its way into the list of key
universities to receive special support from Heilongjiang Government.
The University has covered post-graduate education, general higher
education, higher vocational and technical education and adult education
(continuing education). In 2009, it started its doctorate degree
program.
The university, covering an area of 1.5 million square meters with
the construction area of 950,000 square meters, has five school
districts and a Hi-Tech Park, twenty-six colleges, a department directly
under the university and sixty-nine research institutes. The academic
subjects and disciplines of the university include ten disciplines
involving arts, science, law, engineering, medicine, economics,
education, history, management and agriculture. It has seventy-six
undergraduate programs and thirty-four master’s degree programs. Among
them, there is one state-level special subject, one demonstratively
experimental subject of vocation and profession at the national level,
eight key province-level subjects, three provincial key laboratories,
three provincial experiment centers by demonstration, and nine
provincial quality courses.
The university employs 3076 teachers and staffs, among whom there are
1501 teaching staffs with senior professional title, including
“academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy
of Engineering, Yangtze Scholars”, “Longjiang Scholars” and a group of
distinguished professors and visiting professors. It enrolls 24821
undergraduates from our country’s 31 provinces, municipalities and
autonomous regions, 1000 graduates and 12699 students of continuing
education.
Jiamusi University has fixed assets up to 1.3 billion RMB, including
teaching equipments worth of 240 million RMB, a collection of over one
million books. It has the metal wear-resistant materials and surface
engineering research centers of Ministry of Education, The
Rehabilitation Talents Training Center of the Health Ministry, The
General Medical Training Center of Heilongjiang Province and
Sino-Russian Scientific and Technical Cooperation Center. The three
university journals, “Social Science Journal of JMSU”, “Natural Science
Journal of JMSU”, “Medical Science Journal of Heilongjiang”, enjoy a
circulation both at home and abroad.
The
university, adhering to such an educational policy of “cultivating
students” as its basic principle and teaching as its central task,
carries out the “teaching year” activities, deepens teaching reforms,
keeps innovating the talent training model and implementing “One Body ,
Two Wings” program (One body refers to teaching; two wings refer to
computer teaching and foreign language teaching). The teaching quality
of the school has been continuously improving, and students’
comprehensive quality involving employment ability has been greatly
enhanced. By the end of 2009, it has cultivated nearly 400,000 competent
people of various types.
Taking
the opportunity of starting the doctorate degree program, the
university carries out the activity of “discipline year” to strengthen
the “twenty subjects” program, and meanwhile it has founded “six
experiment (research) centers”, thus the comprehensive advantages have
been fully demonstrated.
Jiamusi
University has undertaken some large-scale and highly sophisticated
national projects from National Projects “973″ and Projects “863″, Key
Projects of National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science
Fund Project, Nation Supporting Program of Science and Technology,
Humanities and Social Sciences Research Projects of the Ministry of
Education. In the research field of wear-resistant materials, drug
research and agricultural engineering research, the university has been
awarded dozens of national patents and greatly strengthened the ability
to improve the development of the economy.
The university has established friendly and cooperative relations
with 32 colleges and universities from 13 countries and regions
including Russia, the United States, Britain, South Korea and Japan.
With China’s government scholarship, more than 702 students from 51
countries are pursuing their studies. These overseas students won the
team title in the First International Competition of Chinese and the
personal top three. One person won Bronze Medal on the second session of
the “Chinese Bridge” Competition of China.
Adhering
to the guiding educational principle “to stabilize the scale; to
improve quality, to strive for unique characteristics; to meet the needs
of local economy”, Jiamusi University aims to build a high level
university of rapid and comprehensive development. Jiamusi University
has been making a greater contribution to achieve the objective of
invigorating China through the development of science and education and
strengthening Heilongjiang Province through the improvement of higher
education.
